Art Emerging

Congratulations to Nadine Potter, another of our KM buddies, whose art is featured on this postcard announcement of Emerging Artists: Works from the Studio, an upcoming exhibit at Craft Alliance Delmar Loop Gallery.

Way to go Nadine!

If you’d like to see this piece and say hello to Nadine, come to the Opening Reception on Friday, June 22, 6:00-8:00 pm. If you can’t make it on Friday, plan to stop by the gallery later in the summer. The exhibit will run from June 22 through August 12, 2012.

Art in Nature, Nature in Art

The Deep Ecology KM Group recently met for a wonderfully mindful evening. Samara introduced various artists who work in deep connection with the earth (such as Andy Goldsworthy) and then led group members through their own artistic exploration of the surroundings.

The group’s next meeting will be Wednesday, June 6, at 6:45 pm, at Concordia Park (across from Kaldi’s on DeMun). Newcomers welcome! The focus will be on sensory awareness. The group will meet again on June 27 (mindful eating) and June 11 (art/nature).

For more information, contact Johannes.

Calling all Dharma Friends

DharmaTown is thrilled to announce the start of a brand new KM group (Kalyana Mitta….aka “Dharma Friends). It will be called Dharma Seed KM, because the focus of the group will be to listen to and discuss selected talks available at Dharmaseed.org.

Who can come: The group is open to all, but please RSVP to Jan so we have some idea of how many people plan to attend.

Where: At the home of Cindy Brinkop in St. Louis Hills. Please contact Cindy for address and directions.

When: The first 3 meetings will be held on Monday, June 18, July 30 and August 27. Beginning on September 10, the group will meet every-other Monday.

What time: 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Format: The meeting will begin with a 20-minute sit, followed by a “check-in” time for everyone to share what’s currently going on with them. The group will then listen to a pre-selected Dharma Seed talk, which will last about an hour, followed by a discussion of about half-an-hour.

The first talk is by Tara Brach, titled “The Awakened Heart.” Future talks will be selected by the group and announced in advance by e-mail. If you would like to add your name to the e-mail list for this group, please contact Jan.

Sitting in the Park

One of our Maplewood Metta sangha members, Cindy Brinkop, has started a new sitting group. It’s called Sitting in the Park and that’s just what they do!

I’ve listed them on the Neighborhood Sitting Groups page, but I wanted to highlight them here because I think it’s so cool.

When: Every Saturday morning through October (weather permitting), 8:30 to 9:00 am
(Beginners requesting instruction are invited to arrive at 8:15)

Where: Tower Grove Park, just west of the Farmer’s Market (on the Kingshighway side)

Look for the Tibetan Prayer Flags! (And bring a waterproof mat or cushion.)

For more info, contact Cindy.

The Artist Cook

I’m back from the desert, which was dry and prickly and full of life.

I learned a lot.

Amazing, isn’t it, the things you discover when you start paying attention. For example, I found out that one of the fabulous cooks at the retreat is an artist….and not only in the kitchen! Her name is Anna Oneglia and she paints and makes these wonderful word/image prints.

Check out her paintings of Ganeesha on a Bike and more!
